Aligning with Global Standards: Richten Energy Commits to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)

What Is the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)?

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a collaborative partnership between the United Nations Global Compact, CDP, and other international organizations. It provides companies with a clearly defined pathway to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement.

Using rigorous science-based methodologies, the SBTi helps ensure that corporate decarbonization efforts are ambitious enough to support global climate goals. To date, more than 2,700 companies worldwide have had their targets validated by the SBTi.

Richten Energy’s Commitment to Net Zero

Since 2022, Richten Energy has aligned its core operations with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Taiwan’s 2050 net-zero policy. Hsueh Wei-li, CEO of Richten Energy, has emphasized the strategic use of solar resources to increase domestic green energy production and help reduce Taiwan’s 98% dependence on imported energy.

Through its patented vertical colored solar PV panels, Richten Energy is strengthening its ESG management practices and preparing for future carbon neutrality milestones.

The Path to Decarbonization: Inventory and Target Setting

Richten Energy is adopting the SBTi framework to track, manage, and disclose its carbon reduction progress through a two-step process:

Inventory: Conducting comprehensive GHG inventories to assess the company’s current carbon footprint across six major audit categories.

Strategy: Using inventory data to map out science-based emissions reduction pathways.

2030 Targets

Using 2022 as its base year, Richten Energy aims to significantly reduce absolute GHG emissions by 2030. The company’s reduction efforts will focus on:

Scope 1: Direct emissions from sources owned or controlled by the organization.

Scope 3: Indirect emissions across the value chain, including those associated with outsourced production and business activities.

Future Outlook: Building a Sustainable Value Chain

To achieve these goals, Richten Energy is implementing several key initiatives:

Onsite Renewable Energy: Using its own solar PV technology to generate power at company facilities.

Green Power Procurement: Planning future renewable energy procurement through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).

Collaborative Impact: Working with government agencies, academic institutions, and industry partners to expand its sustainability impact and help build a more resilient and sustainable value chain.
